Dear Customer
Please note that after reviewing the South African horse racing results data TurfTV provides on this web site and following discussions with a number of customers, changes are being implemented to this service from 1st September 2008.
South African horse racing results do not currently follow the UK paradigm of first past the post (“FPP”) result and racing rules result or ‘weighed in’. Instead in South Africa there is an Unofficial result and an Official result. The challenge this creates for UK betting shops is the Official result may not be confirmed for up to 20 minutes after the race has finished. This can cause operational problems for many betting shops as customers expect faster payment than this system allows. Fast payout is not easy as the South African result feed, as displayed on the TurfTV web results service, currently uses South African Official results only.
To improve this situation a change is being implemented to the TurfTV results service (http://eventdata.turftv.co.uk) that will now provide an ‘Unofficial ‘ result directly after a race has finished, indicated by a status flag, which will allow betting shops to pay out on a FPP basis (if they wish). The result status flag on the web site will indicate "result" for the Unofficial result and "weighed in" for the Official result. Once the ‘Official’ result is received the Unofficial result will be updated (which may or may not result in changed places, prices or dividends), and the result flag will be changed to ‘weighed in’.
The Unofficial FPP result may be subject to amendment and those bookmakers who wish to settle bets in this manner do so at their own risk. TurfTV does not underwrite the accuracy of results forwarded to it and warns that care is used when offering FPP type services on South African horse racing. Please note that the TurfTV web result service will only show the latest status of each result. Once a result has been upgraded to ‘weighed in’ the FPP information is overwritten, therefore those customers who want a historical record of FPP results should make their own arrangements to record that detail.
